Grey’s Anatomy star responds to criticism for wearing KN95s on set

With the COVID-19 pandemic still raging, and setting confirmed case highs on a near daily basis in the U.S., some fans of Grey’s Anatomy expressed concerns regarding the show’s use of KN95 masks. One viewer in particular, who watched the season 17 premiere last week, criticized actress Camilla Luddington on Twitter for ‘wasting PPE’ by wearing a KN95 mask between takes, rather than a disposable mask. Luddington, who plays Dr. Jo Wilson, responded Monday about the masks that she and her co-stars are wearing on the new season.

The critical fan maintained those coveted KN95s could be donated to real life healthcare workers. ‘If you see any of us wearing KN95s behind the scenes it’s because we are wearing our costume masks. We don’t also get an extra KN95 to wear between takes,’ the British-born actress pointed out.

Those particular masks are vital because they meet the U.S. National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health N95 classification of air filtration, meaning that it filters at least 95% of airborne particles.
