Demand for plant-based beauty products is on a rise online

During the pandemic, there has been a significant rise in demand for skincare products in India with more consumers becoming conscious about practicing self-care, suggests data compiled by an e-commerce platform. If sale figures on the platform are anything to go by, then there also has been a rise in demand for plant-based beauty and skincare products.

 Some of the most popular products on the platform in winter season have been face packs, moisturizers and body oils made with natural ingredients like rose, coconut oil, clay, aloe vera, turmeric, charcoal, avocado, onion etc. Aloevera especially has turned out to be season’s favourite with users searching twice as much for aloe vera-based products compared to last year.
There has also been corresponding increase in sale of products like aloe vera gel, handmade soaps, moisturisers, shampoo, as well as aloe vera juice, powder and capsules, the study mentions. “The rise of many local manufacturers and sellers online has led to awareness and popularity of what can be called ‘regional” products that were earlier available in khadi and state govt shops.
