If you need lessons on how to look perfectly put together all the time, Deepika Padukone is your go-to star. The actor not only is an icon for her beauty and fashion statements on screen and on the red carpet, but also a much-needed champion for mental health awareness. Want in on her secrets? We culled out the best advice she has shared with us over the years—way back from when she was still a Bollywood newcomer in 2010, to nine years later.
The skincare advice she swears by? Always take makeup off before bed
Padukone’s glowy skin is, in large part, the result of her commitment to keeping it that way. “I am most particular about removing all my makeup and keeping my skin clean before I go to bed. No matter how tired I am or how hectic my day has been, I always make it a point to take it off,” she told Vogue India in 2017. When worn overnight, makeup can clog pores and prevent skin from repairing itself, which may lead to breakouts, fine lines and skin ageing. The actor wears makeup, including occlusive base products like foundation, on a regular basis, so cleansing is key. Padukone is also a fan of a skincare routine that exfoliates, cleanses and hydrates the skin. She relies on sunscreen, which she “applies twice a day” and a night cream to hydrate the skin. She likes clay masks (like the L’Oréal Paris Pure Clay Mask) to detox the skin. “It works wonders and leaves my skin feeling fresh, healthy and hydrated in just 10 minutes,” she said.
The secret behind her statement eyebrows is doing absolutely nothing them
While brow gels, fillers and pencils can create a well-groomed brow, 2019’s favourite brows are strong, natural and face-framing. Padukone says that leaving hers alone is the best beauty decision she made. “What many tend to do is go to the salon and keep threading and threading the brows, and one day they’re left with pencil-thin eyebrows. The right thickness and shape define your face. I believe the thicker the brows the younger you look,” she told us.
Her fitness formula is to just keep going
Padukone svelte figure is due to her constant workout schedule. While she has changed her techniques over the years—she worked with personal trainer Abhishek Sharma in 2010, exercised with Pilates guru Yasmin Karachiwala in 2017, and tried strength training with Nam Wook Kang in 2019—she’s kept her focus on maintaining her fitness levels steady. “I make it a point to work out as often as possible despite my schedules. Having practical and realistic exercise goals is necessary to maintain long-term objectives,” she said. In fact, even back in 2010, Padukone sweared by the transformative power of a great sweat session. “A speedy workout followed by a quick spa session, or sometimes just a quick steam and sauna, will instantly make you feel good about yourself. Exercise followed by a spa treatment makes me feel great,” she said.
